LA Movie Reviews- Captain Phillips

Based on a true story, Captain Richard Phillips finds himself & his crew in a dangerous predicament when his cargo ship is hijacked by Somalian pirates. Paul Greengrass directs this suspenseful thriller which happens to be a highlight of the year. Greengrass really grounds the movie into reality by keeping it very accurate to the actual events. His hand held camera style builds tension in every scene. Tom Hanks happens to be one of my favorite actors, he really delivers here. His genuine displays of fear & shock make you forget that he's Tom Hanks. Barkhad Abdi, who plays the main pirate, is a very good actor. His displays of desperation, calmness, and struggle to maintain control despite being outmatched are highlights of the film. Henry Jackman crafts an intense score that thrusts you into every nerve wrecking moment. Captain Phillips is a strong, captivating film with terrific performances from both leads.
4.5/5
