LA Movie Review- Man Of Steel
Kal-el is forced to become Superman when Earth is threatened by General Zod. The big disappointment about Superman Returns was the lack of action. This is filled with action throughout but it comes at a price. The story is hurt by the repetitive use of flashbacks, which interrupt the narrative. It's tone is damaged by the constant switching from emotion & action. The film itself feels more like a first contact movie, rather than a superhero movie. The plot itself is murky at times, it rips apart some Superman lore & the movie is very long. Hans Zimmer's score, while a good listen on its own, is distracting at times during the film. This movie had a lot of things going against it & then it happened... Superman actually fought. He had multiple fights & the action on screen is everything you've ever wanted from a Superman movie. The special effects are amazing while the fights occur. Honestly, the action scenes saved this movie. Acting wise, Henry Cavill dons the cape but never really feels like superman. He doesn't feel a whole lot like Clark Kent either. Cavil is dealt with the task of portraying the alien side the most. Russell Crowe is definitely the best actor in this & is a highlight in the movie. Amy Adams makes a good Lois Lane & Kevin Costner is very believable in the 10 minutes he was in. Michael Shannon as General Zod, only acts intense throughout. Overall while many things bring down the movie, it does manage to break through & give us the best Superman movie ever.
