LA Movie Review- The World's End

Simon Pegg stars as Gary King, a man who reunites his former friends in order to complete a pub crawl they never finished years earlier. The night turns from one of drinking to one of survival as they face apocalyptic challenges on their way to the final pub, The World's End. Shaun of The Dead was the horror movie, Hot Fuzz was the action movie, & this is the sci-fi movie. All of the above were packed with comedy but this may be the funniest. A lot of that comedy is Simon Pegg who plays a man who never really grew up & wants to live in the glory days. As good as Pegg was, Nick Frost stole the show as he convincingly fought anything that threatened his survival. The supporting cast was great as well including an eerie Pierce Bronson. The action in the movie is so spectacular that it was pushing the movie close to a 5/5. However the action doesn't hold a candle to a particular scene towards the end which had such a human moment that was so moving that it made you forget about all of the bombastic situations around them. Director Edgar Wright crafted that scene absolutely perfectly. It is a very funny movie with great action, but I don't believe it quite reaches the bar that Shaun & Fuzz set (although it gets pretty close). The World's End is the final chapter of Cornetto Trilogy which is blessed to have such an extraordinarly fun series of films.
4.4/5
