LA Movie Review- Despicable Me 2
Former bad guy, Gru, is called in by The Anti-Villain League in order to neutralize the threat of a new villain. Computer animation just gets better & better as portrayed in this Seuss-like world that would benefit from 3D. However, none of that brought me into the theater. I didn't care for the new characters like Kristen Wigg, who plays the love interest. Her character is so inconsistent in tone that she brought down the movie for me, blame it on the writing. I didn't even care for the plot. All I cared about was the minions. They deliver laughs whenever on screen & easily steal the show. That also hurts the movie when they aren't on screen. If you take them out of the movie, then what you're left with isn't special or memorable. It tries to have a heart but it just doesn't get there. There's a lot of animated movies at the theater right now & while Despicable Me 2 is funnier than Monsters University, it lacks the heart that Monsters University has.
