LA Movie Review- The Counselor

A corrupt lawyer's lavish life falls apart when a robbery sends the cartel after him. Ridley Scott directs this convoluted disappointment. The plot is very murky making it hard to follow. The dialogue is the biggest problem. Every line is an overly ambitious speech of consequence & death. It takes the realism right out of the movie. The cast consists of Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, & Brad Pitt. Incredible cast & only Bardem's character is interesting. Penelope Cruz and Brad Pitt had nothing to do in the entire movie. A lot of Cameron Diaz's scenes were pointless & should have been cut out. Fassbender doesn't bring anything memorable to his character. You don't care for their characters because the dialogue is just too much. This movie wasn't written well as it dropped & included storylines for no apparent reason & delivers an unsatisfying ending. The movie does have a good score & good cinematography. It however did not keep me from getting bored in this ambitious, disappointing mess that never lives up to its potential.
1.9/5
