LA Movie Review- Prisoners

When two little girls are kidnapped, father Kellen Dover will break any law & his own moral code on a no holds barred journey to get them back. A detective is also challenged by the case, determined to find the girls while struggling with his own moral authority to ensure that the law is maintained. Dark, somber, & Oscar worthy are the words to describe the year's best thriller. Director Denis Villeneuve crafts a powerful film that is graphic, gritty, & unbelievably intense. The screenplay takes twists while leaving you plenty of clues to keep you guessing the film's outcome. The film is also shot beautifully by its cinematographer, Roger Deakins. Then there's the acting. Hugh Jackman is perfect. He displays intense anger & passion in this incredible performance that is absolutely Oscar worthy. His performance is not only the best he's given, but one of the best any actor has ever given. Jake Gyllenhaal cannot be denied in this movie. He was great as detective Loki. Gyllenhaal was at times reserved & then pushed to great limits. He gave it everything he had & enhanced the film greatly. Terrence Howard is terrific, as is Viola Davis as a couple that desperately want their daughter back. There is no bad performance to be found in the film. This is a stellar movie that will keep you glued to your seat throughout the 2 & a half hour length. This movie will not only be on my top 10 of 2013 list, but will probably be number 1.
5/5
