LA Movie Review- Insidious Chapter 2

Picking up directly where Insidious left off, the Lambert family isn't safe as an evil entity continues to terrorize them. James Wann, director of Insidious and The Conjuring, finishes his journey of horror on a high note. The film started off a bit unbalanced but it gradually improved. James Wann really dives deeper into the story in an unexpected way because by the halfway point any resemblance of unbalance is gone as the film morphs into an awesome combination of The Shining & Back To The Future Part II. Not all is good as the overall writing isn't as strong as the first one & it isn't as scary as the first. It is however more entertaining. On the acting side Rose Bryne gets the short end of the stick with the way her character is written. She isn't really able to add anything new. She gets stuck playing scared mother & is unfortunately a one dimensional character. Patrick Wilson however clearly had it better as he played two characters in the film, & does it well. One problem I had with the movie is the predictability for the scares. Whenever the camera was hand held then scares would arrive & would only do so when it was hand held, so suspense was removed. Maybe I've been watching too many movies to notice something like that. The movie has unexpectedly funny moments with some hilarious side characters that will headline Insidious Chapter 3. As for Chapter 2, while it has its faults is still an entertaining film & a good time at the movies.
3.5/5
