LA Movie Review- Carrie
A socially awkward teenager's life changes after a traumatizing experience with bullies. With newly discovered telekinetic abilities she intends on having her vengeance. Kimberly Peirce directs this adaptation of Stephen King's novel. The advertising made this movie look like crap, so I went in expecting as much. I walked out surprisingly entertained. The movie is by no means great, but it is better than it should have been. The movie however, is not scary. It doesn't hurt the movie, but it does further my point that the movie was not marketed correctly. Chloe Grace Moretz does a very believable job playing the victim which makes her dark turn even more satisfying. Julianne Moore plays Carrie's religious zealot of a mother. She plays her part even when the dialogue becomes outlandish. That is the screenplay's fault. Another fault is creating the same Hollywood high school cliché that every other movie does. The movie's final moments do detract from the complete experience & cost the movie a higher rating. Nevertheless Carrie is a flawed but overall entertaining movie.
