LA Movie Review- Rush
This is the true story of the 1970 formula one racing rivalry between James Hunt & Niki Lauda. Ron Howard, director of Apollo 13 & How The Grinch Stole Christmas, takes on this ambitious tale. Howard captures the essence of this era in a very stylistic manner. He really makes you feel as though the film had been made in the 70's. The movie's pacing starts off slow & builds up to a strong final act. The last act of the movie is extremely gripping. It completely sucks you into the moment just like a Rocky movie would. The real story is the rivalry, which is very well done with each actor making you feel as though they truly hated each other. Chris Hemsworth plays James Hunt, a naturally talented racer who loves to party & does not fear death. Daniel Bruhl plays the very calculated Niki Lauda, a racer who works extremely hard for each victory. The film is structured in a way that makes it hard for you to take sides in their rivalry. Both actors are great in the movie. The film is intense & very graphic when exposing the very real risks of the sport. This is a great movie & not since Rocky Balboa in 2006, have I wanted to cheer in the theater the way Rush made me do.
